We are here to tell you a little detail about a rather new honors degree program. As you are about to make a very important decision in your life in selecting an honors degree to follow in the next two years within the university! Have you heard about the Business and Environment (BnE, what we call it in short) Honors degree program offered by the Department of Zoology and Environment Sciences? Let us allow to brief you on that a bit.

Business and Environment

Business and Environment is an industry-oriented honors degree program offered by the Department of Zoology and Environment Sciences. This degree is open to students of both biological science and physical science streams. Here are some frequently asked questions regarding this degree program and we tried to answer them as best we could.

FAQs on Business and Environment Degree

Q: What are the eligibility criteria?

A: A minimum GPA of 2.50 at the end of Level II for all registered academic courses. Students from both streams of biology and physical could apply for this degree program. (Entry requirements are mentioned in your handbook.)

Q: Are we doing both Industrial training & Research components under this degree program?

A: Yes. Both components will be done in the 2nd semester of the 4th year (6 credits each). You have the option of selecting your field of interest for both categories in relation to the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).

Q: Are there any elective course units?

A: No. All the course units are compulsory. You can check the course units on the UOC FOS website from the link below.

Q: Can students pursue higher studies?

A: Yes. This is an industry-oriented degree with a six-credit research component in the second semester of the fourth year. If you have a solid GPA at the end of your fourth year and produce good research that can be published, you can apply for scholarships easily.

Q: What kind of job opportunities will this degree offer?

A: Environmental and sustainability-related job opportunities exist in both private and public sectors, such as; Hotels, banking, plantations, agriculture, construction, dairy, and tourism. Ex: Entrepreneurs, Sustainability Managers, Naturalists, EIA consultants.

Q: What are the skills you can obtain through this degree program?

A: Through this degree program, you can develop report writing skills, presentation skills, communication skills, video editing skills, and many more skills required for the industrial sector. Many experiences could be gained through the amazing field visits arranged during the 3rd and 4th years.

Through industrial training during the second semester of the fourth year, you will be able to develop teamwork skills, critical thinking skills, as well as moral and professional ethics. Industrial training helps in applying our technical knowledge and methods to real-life situations, which will in turn motivate, develop, and build our confidence. Working experience within the industry is an added bonus that would look rather attractive on your resume.

By conducting successful research, you will be able to improve your reading and writing skills, analytical skills, data analysis skills, research skills such as the ability to understand and integrate resources gleaned through various means, presentation skills, as well as creative skills such as the ability to interpret and create out-of-the-box ideas.
