When someone enquires about the Cholesterol level, they may be terrifying of the HDL level? You may hear someone saying I have cholesterol. My cholesterol level is higher. Also when you seeing any of blood report, there are including some values of LDL and HDL. What are these? And what is the Cholesterol?

Actually cholesterol is a solid alcohol which is generates in human body and keeps it healthy. Some of cholesterols are produce naturally, it can be different from person to person because of their family health story, and while some of it comes from the food we eat. And your cholesterol level can be affected by your age, gender, family health history and diet.

Cholesterol is responsible for a number of functions such as;

  • Building and maintenance of the cell membranes.
  • Production of sex hormones. (androgens & estrogens)
  • Production of bile.
  • Metabolism of fat-soluble vitamins, including vitamins. A, D, E & K
  • Insulation of nerve fibers.
  • Conversion of sunshine into vitamin D.

There are two types of cholesterol such as good and bad. We must know about those two types how harm human body and risk for heart disease (heart attack or stroke). Cholesterol travels through the blood attached to lipoproteins. We try to maintain the good cholesterol (HDL) and decrease the bad cholesterol (LDL).Actually what is the different of those types?
First we talk about HDL or High Density Lipoprotein. HDL is the good cholesterol which keeps the LDL from getting lodged into our artery walls. And also protect against heart attacks and storks. When decrease the HDL level than 40 mg/dL for men and 50 mg/dL for women there are risk for getting heart disease. If you need to increase HDL and get your goals, you should do regular physical activities such as walking, running. Also reducing trans fats and eating balanced food, nutritious diet and avoiding smoking can increase your HDL level.

Then we talk about the dark side of the cholesterol, LDL (Low Density Lipoproteins)
Actually when LDL cholesterol circulates too much in the blood it can clog arteries
then increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. LDL cholesterol is produces in naturally by the human body. But many people inherent gens from their father, mother or even their grandparents that cause them to make too much. Also eating trans fats, saturated fat and dietary cholesterol also increase the LDL level in human body. If high blood cholesterol runs on your family, lifestyle change may not be enough to help for decrease LDL level. Most appropriate way is meet your doctor and find the treatment for you. It is the best action in this stage.
When too much LDL cholesterol circulates in the blood, it can slowly build up in the inner walls of the arteries that feed the heart and brain. The result of that case that can be form plaque, a thick, hard deposit that can narrow the arteries and make them less flexible. This condition is known as “atherosclerosis”. If a clot forms and blocks a narrowed artery, a heart attack or stroke can result.
