DARE the SQUARE

Share

In my previous post (QUEEN of all SCIENCEs); I revealed some beauty tips of our pretty queen, MATH.

It included a tip to square a two digit number which ends with “5”. It was only a specific method for “5” and as I got many compliments on that squaring tip, I thought of adding some more to your knowledge about squaring other two digit numbers.

This method can be used with ANY two digit number. JUST THREE STEPS.
As we all know 122 = 144
But 322 = ??? (Some may think “ah… It’s easy”)
Then how about 992 = ?? (Some may feel dizzy)

So let’s start off with a simple example..
Eg: 322 = ???
Step 1: Consider the last digit of the given number; which is “2” & add it to the original number.
32+2 = 34
Step 2: multiply step 1 answer by the first digit of the original number.
34 x 3 = 102
We are almost done. We all know that the square of the second digit of the original is “04”(always take the square of the second digit of the original as a 2 digit number).
Step 3: add the step 2 answer and the squared last digit of the original number in the following format.

        102_ +
          04
       ________
        1024

Therefore, 322= 1024.
If you are not sure about this method please check with your calculator.
Let’s consider a one more example…

 Eg: 672 =???
 Step 1: 67 + 7 = 74 (original + second digit of the original)
 Step 2: 74 x 6 = 444 (step 1 answer x first digit of the original)
Step 3: 444_ + (step 2 answer + square of the second digit of the original in
 FORMAT)
        49
      ______
      4489

Therefore, 672= 4489.
Now I’m so sure, all my buddies can find 992 in seconds now.. Thanks for reading.. See you all soon.
