Battle of the titans: SLUG wrestling tourney 2019

While ago the indoor stadium at university of Ruhuna was lying in a deep sleep. It was disturbed in a flash by the cheering of the huge audience and the sparkling lights. Each passing minute was swarmed with discomfiture as it was time to direct all of their abilities in the exact way to the diversion of their dream into truth. After persevering practicing sessions throughout months; a new chapter of wrestling in SLUG history was about to begin. The stadium was filled without any gaps from the enthusiasts of this wonderful and alarming battle of the titans.

Wrestling tourney of SLUG 2019 was continued for two days from 30th to 31st of August 2019 under 10 weight categories. After passing the winning ball to each and every player; most talented and the luckiest ones were selected to the finals of their respective weight category, leaving a final hope for the wrestlers and the supporters of their respective universities. Players of the final match were heading to the indoor stadium in order to write the victory in front of their alma 3 name. After ending a blistering game series; final results were announced.

Under 57 kg weight category, university of Kelaniya stood at the 1st place by letting university of peradeniya at the 2nd place and both university of Moratuwa and Wayamba university at the 3rd place. Under 61 kg weight category, university of Sri Jayawardanapura won the 1st place. University of Kelaniya won the 2nd place while the university of Peradeniya and university of Jaffna shared the 3rd place. Sabaragamuwa university had won the 1st place under 65 kg weight category. University of Colombo won the 2nd place in this category while the Eastern university and university of Peradeniya stood at the 3rd place. Under 70 kg weight category, Sabaragamuwa university won the 1st place and university of Kelaniya won the 2nd place. The 3rd place went to the Eastern university and the university of Sri Jayawardanapura. Under 74 kg weight category university of Sri Jayawardanapura stood at the 1st place while the Eastern university stood at the 2nd place. The university of Peradeniya and the Sabaragamuwa university won the 3rd place.

University of Sri Jayawardanapura acquired the 1st place under 79 kg weight category, intermittently the Eastern university placed at the 2nd position. University of Kelaniya and the university of Moratuwa acquired the 3rd place in this weight category. University of Moratuwa won the 1st place under 86 kg weight category while the university of Peradeniya won the 2nd place in this category. The Eastern and the Wayamba universities won the 3rd place. Wayamba university won the 1st place under 92 kg weight category. In this category, Sabaragamuwa university won the 2nd place while the university of Colombo and the university of Peradeniya won the 3rd place. Wayamba university won the 1st place under 97 kg weight category. University of Sri Jayawardanapura won the 2nd place. The university of Kelaniya and the Eastern university won the 3rd place in this category. Wayamba university stood at the 1st position under 125 kg weight category while the university of Peradeniya stood at the 2nd position. Intermittently, universities of Kelaniya and Moratuwa shared the 3rd position.

It is crystal clear that their commitment and dedication for wrestling game and for their beloved alma mater lie down beneath their victory. We would like to bow these great players and to extend our heartiest congratulations to the winners of each weight category.
