The 13th Sri Lanka University Games (SLUG) started on the 7th of July 2019. However, it was only last Sunday that the University of Colombo started the long road to glory. The first event for the purple and yellow was a Rugby group stage fixture with the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. This was at the BOI Grounds in Koggala.

The first half was a cagey affair as both teams tried to settle themselves in to the game. The boys from Colombo emerged with a first half lead with the half-time score reading 17-05. University of Colombo scored 3 tries, but only managed one conversion. In response, Rajarata scored just the solitary try.

This reserved style of play only lasted for the first half, as University of Colombo cut loose on some tired Rajarata legs. Krishmal Fernando’s side crushed the opposition in the second half with a total of 7 tries. From these, the boys from Colombo converted 6. The second half resulted in 47 points going in the way of Colombo, to which Rajarata had no response. After a comfortable game of rugby, the full-time score read 64-05 in favor of University of Colombo.

University of Colombo play their next game this Sunday (21st of July) against the University of Jaffna. This will also be at the BOI Grounds in Koggala.
