”Today, and every day, let’s work to transform education. And let’s ensure that youth have what they need to build skills for shaping a more peaceful, sustainable future for all.”
-UN Secretary-General António Guterres
World Youth Skills Day plays a pivotal role in highlighting the importance of youth skills development, aligning closely with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Recognizing the strategic importance of equipping young people with essential skills, the United Nations General Assembly established World Youth Skills Day on July 15th, 2014. World Youth Skills Day was initiated to improve the transition from education to the world of work, acknowledging the challenges young people face in this journey. The day emphasizes the necessity of developing skills that are adaptable and versatile to meet the demands of a rapidly changing job market.
The theme for World Youth Skills Day 2024 is “Youth Skills for Peace and Development”. It highlights the crucial role that young people play in peacebuilding and conflict resolution.
”The future of humanity and our planet depends on young people. But it also depends on ensuring they have the skills to tackle today’s challenges and shape a more peaceful tomorrow.”
-UN Secretary-General António Guterres
In a world where violent conflicts disrupt education, online platforms foster negativity and limited opportunities with disparities, it is necessary to equip the youth with skills for fostering a culture of peace, nurturing responsible global citizens, and promoting sustainable development.
On World Youth Skills Day, the focus is on recognizing the potential of young individuals as catalysts for peace. As we celebrate this day, let us reaffirm our commitment to provide them with essential skills and opportunities to overcome challenges and actively contribute to a harmonious, flourishing, and sustainable world.
