Are you good at making an audience laugh? Or are you good at giving a proper evaluation? Then what are you waiting for? The most awaited speech conquest is here for you!

It’s the time for the excited audience to cheer for the next biggest speech conquest which will be commenced soon. The stage is set for the orators to illuminate with their exceptional talents. It’s “ENLIVEN 2019”!

“Enliven 2019”; the All Island English language Humorous Speech and Evaluation Competition, is one of the flagship events of the Gavel Club of University of Colombo. It is organized to enhance the communication skills and leadership skills among young orators. It will unravel the hidden talents of the upcoming young public speakers, while encouraging them to strive towards their goals.

Public speaking would be a lot of fun when humor is included. A humorous speech will make the audience agree with the speaker’s point of view so that the speaker can go a long way in convincing them that whatever spoken is right. Even some serious messages and concepts can be easily conveyed to the general public via humor.

The primary goal of an evaluation competition is building evaluation capacities. Speakers will have the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge, develop innovative thinking and the ability to analyze problems in a very short time frame. The variety of approaches and analytical observations will surely complement ones’ existing evaluation skills.

The competition will be held under two categories for both school and university students as School category and Senior category respectively but toastmasters are not entitled for the competition.

Enliven was first held in 2017 marking a huge milestone in gavel UOC and in Gavel clubs’ history. After a tough and equally competitive battle, Amalini Fernando of University of Kelaniya clinched the title for the ‘Best Evaluator 2017’ while Chathuranga Amunugama of University of Moratuwa grabbed the prestigious title ‘Best Humorous Speaker 2017’ displaying his power of endurance and undaunted courage.

Don’t worry if you still don’t have any idea of what a humorous speech, evaluation or public speaking is as we’ve organized a series of workshops conducted by specialists before you go on stage. Therefore, you’ll have all the necessary information and tips at your hand to make your speech and evaluation the best one.

The first Enliven workshop will be conducted by TM Sandun Fernando; Champion in Evaluation and Table Topic Contest (District 82 – Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu) and TM Shamen Sameera ; Champion Humorous Contest (District 82 – Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadhu). It will be on 17^th February 2019 at University of Colombo premises. The workshop will include an exciting mix of information, demonstrations, group discussions and exercises which would be very much helpful for the competition.
