He rose on wings of feather and wax
The wind through his hair, he felt no care
He was told to not fly too high or low
And then he heard the sun god call
Driven to its rays, the warmth he craved
He flew too close as if to defy its might
The sun took slightly at this mortal’s dare
And sent its wrath to school the fool
The wax now melting his wings no more
Icarus fell to his death no less.
His name now a warning to the daring souls
A cruel lesson echoed forever
They’ll say beware; they’ll say take care;
No desire is worth risking it all
But what they never say, is how he laughed
As he fell from high for the seas to swallow
For he knew what he’d seen, he’d felt, was his to own
That no other man was privy to such bliss
Icarus flew too close to the sun, we know
But at least, he flew.
