The Battle Of The 16 State Universities: Inter University Championship 2022

The young strength of 16 State Universities in the island battled to bring the trophy of the Inter University Championship to their alma mater. The heat of the championship was sustained constantly from the beginning to the very end. The championship began on the 11th of November 2022 and continued until the 08th of January 2023. The Championship was initiated with the Badminton tournaments which were hosted by the University of Kelaniya, giving a nail-biting experience for all sportsmen. The silent battlers, the game of the brain, none other than the chess tournament, which was hosted by the University of Visual & Performing Arts gave an unforgettable wind-up to the Inter University Championship 2022.

The championship was brightened up with 22 sports, namely Badminton, Baseball, Basketball, Carrom, Chess, Cricket, Elle, Football, Hockey, Karate, Netball, Road Race, Rowing, Rugby Football, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Track & Field, Volleyball, Weightlifting & Wrestling. The games were held in all 16 state universities of Sri Lanka.

Sleepless nights, hard work, constant physical exercises & especially undoubted morality paid off & champions were listed at the end. With 320 points, University of Sabaragamuwa marked their position as 2nd runner-up. With 340 points, the University of Colombo marked its position as 1st runner-up. Finally with unbeatable physical and mental strength, with 356.5 points, the University of Sri Jayewardenepura marked its name as the overall champion of the Inter University Championship 2022. The University of Colombo was crowned as champions of the Men’s category of the Inter University Championship 2022. While once again, the University of Sri Jayewardenepura was crowned the champion of the Women’s category.

Be it a win or a loss, every sportsman who participated made a distinct mark in the championship. Giving up is not in the blood of a sportsman. So, hoping to see another energetic battle in the next Inter University Championship with more heat.
