The Freshers’ Tournament for the year 2019 kicked off on 29th of March, embellished with an energetic initiation from the best swimmers among the freshers in the University of Colombo. Freshers from all the faculties of the university participated in following events.
- 200m freestyle (men)
- 25m , 50m , 100m backstroke (men & women)
- 25m , 50m , 100m butterfly (men & women)
- 25m , 100m freestyle (men & women)
- 25m x 4 medley relay (men & women)
- 25m , 50m , 100m breaststroke (men & women)
- 100m medley (men & women)
- 25m x 4 freestyle relay (men & women)
The weather was warm and humid, and the blue hued waters glowed under the searing sun. By the time the events started, the water was lukewarm, calm and looked rather inviting for the eyes of the competitors who were thirsty, not for water itself, but for the championships that were going to be
As for men’s events there was a tough competition between the Faculty of Management and Finance, and the Faculty of Science from the beginning. There was a neck to neck competition until the future management degree holders made it above the rest.
The Faculty of Management and Finance was the front runner from the beginning of the women’s events. Hence, they led the women’s championship by a mighty amount of 30 marks.
Struggling without the support of the female swimmers’, the Faculty of Science only managed to become the overall second runners up, while the University of Colombo School of Computing and Faculty of Management and Finance students secured first runners up and the championship, respectively.
